Food Watercolor Ideas: Paint a Favorite Bite
A favorite food can be a small subject with plenty to notice: the pale inside of a lemon, a pastry’s darker edge or the shine on a piece of fruit. This was the starting point for our food-themed Watercolor Friday.

Choose One Detail to Paint
- Fruit: begin with the main shape and leave a little white paper for the highlight.
- Pastry: use a light warm wash, then add a few darker marks along folds or edges.
- Breakfast: choose one item from the plate and keep the background simple.
Work from Light to Dark
Start with a pale base wash. Let it dry before adding small details that need a clean edge. Keep the darkest marks for the few places that help explain the shape.
Try a lemon slice to practice white-paper highlights, or watercolor macarons to practice small shadows.
